So you’re going to be a groom? Are you ready to help make all of those small decisions about colors of that one flower on that one table next to your soon to be mother-in-law near the cake? Well get ready, because you are in for a wild ride!
As a groom, you have a few small duties that you should do without being asked. These include buying your bride a gift for the day of or getting the marriage license in order. However, the biggest, and most important duty you have as a groom, is doing anything & everything she tells you to. Let’s take the last part of that statement and really unpack it. As a groom, you have to understand that your bride has probably been planning her wedding (of some sorts) since she was about 10 years old. While you were outside playing freeze tag, getting sweaty with your closest mates, your soon to be bride was inside thinking about how she will look like a princess on her wedding day. Keeping that in mind, as a groom, you have basically one job: make her/and keep her happy!
There are definitely a few mistakes that many grooms make when it comes to wedding affairs. Being aware of these mistakes can help prevent future mistakes you may make.
Mistake #1: Ghosting on the wedding planning. Although it may seem like your bride is controlling the planning, she will always be looking to you for advice & approval. Don’t just disappear on the wedding planning because that can only cause problems.
Mistake #2: Forgetting to ask your boys/asking your boys too late about being in the wedding party. As a groom, besides keeping your bride happy, you really just have to get your best man and groomsman. This is the one aspect of your wedding that your bride won’t have her hand in, so don’t mess that up!
Mistake #3: This is probably the most seen mistake when it come to grooms: do not say “I don’t care” when it comes to wedding decisions. Even if you really do not care, make a decision. State a clear opinion. Your bride will only get angry if you continue to tell her you don’t care. It is your wedding so in her head you should care about every detail! So at least pretend like you do!
Avoiding these mistakes and living by the golden rule (keeping her happy) will allow you to have a successful wedding, with a happy wife, and definitely a happy life. Don’t be a Groomszilla, and make sure your bride (and yourself) have a wonderful and magical day!
